About this tour
This Marrakech Essaouira family tour starts in Marrakech and heads straight for the Atlantic coast, spending two nights in Essaouira — a relaxed, artistic port town perfect for easing into the trip.
From there, a short desert interlude in Agafay brings a taste of dune landscapes and a night under canvas, without the long drive to the Sahara.
The final three days return to Marrakech for souks, palaces, and a flexible free day — cooking class, hammam, or simply more time to explore, with a farewell dinner to close the week.
As a Moroccan local operator, we hand-pick every riad, camp and guide on this route. Every itinerary can be tailored to your dates, pace and interests. This itinerary is built with families in mind — shorter drive days and a flexible final day for younger travelers or anyone who’d rather set their own pace.

The journey
Your private driver meets you at Marrakech Menara Airport and heads straight to Essaouira, a scenic 2.5-hour drive through argan countryside to Morocco’s most charming coastal city. Check in, settle in, and enjoy a welcome dinner of fresh Atlantic specialties in the old medina.
A guided morning through Essaouira’s UNESCO-listed medina. Visit the Skala de la Kasbah ramparts, the blue-painted lanes, and the lively fishing port. The afternoon is free for the beach, the souks, or simply wandering at your own pace. Dinner at a local restaurant in the medina.
Drive to the Agafay Desert (around 3 hours), a rocky desert just outside Marrakech with the Atlas Mountains on the horizon. Check into your luxury desert camp, enjoy an optional camel ride at sunset time, and end the day with dinner under the stars and live Berber music around the fire.
A relaxed breakfast at the camp before the short 45-minute transfer into Marrakech. Check into your riad in the medina and the afternoon is an orientation tour in the Medina, exploring Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, the beating heart of the city followed food tasting tour in the square.
A full guided tour of Marrakech’s imperial landmarks, start your day by visiting the 14th-century Ben Youssef Madrasa, the 19th-century Bahia Palace with its gardens and tilework, and the iconic 77-metre Koutoubia Mosque minaret, followed by a walk through the legendary souks. In the afternoon, join a traditional Moroccan cooking class where you will prepare your own meal from scratch, learning classic dishes such as tagine, couscous, and Moroccan salads with a local chef, and enjoy what you have made as your dinner for the evening.
This day is yours to shape. Select the experience that suits you best from the two options below:
Option A — City Leisure, Hammam & Farewell Dinner
A relaxed free day to spend however you choose in Marrakech. Browse the souks for last-minute treasures, revisit a favourite corner of the medina, or simply rest at your riad. In the afternoon, unwind with a traditional Moroccan hammam and spa session, a centuries-old bathing ritual of steam, black soap, and full-body exfoliation. The evening closes with a farewell dinner at a celebrated Marrakech restaurant.
Option B — Day Trip to Imlil & High Atlas Mountains
An early morning escape into the High Atlas Mountains for a guided hike in the Imlil Valley, dramatic mountain scenery, Berber villages clinging to the hillsides, and trails through walnut groves and terraced fields. Return to Marrakech in the afternoon for time at leisure, followed by a farewell dinner in the evening.
Time at leisure. Depends on your departure time, private transfer takes you to Marrakech Menara Airport.
