The journey

Welcome to Morocco. You land at Casablanca International Airport, where your private driver meets you and begins the journey to Fes, the imperial city that is the cultural heart of the country. The drive takes around 4 hours, and your driver can stop on the way if you need a break.
You check into your riad in the afternoon or early evening. The rest of the day is free to rest after your flight. Get ready for a welcome dinner in a restaurant in Fes.

Today is a full guided day in Fes, one of Morocco’s oldest imperial cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The medina is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world. You start at the exterior of the Royal Palace, with its brass doors and tiled walls, then walk through the Jewish Quarter (the Mellah), with its distinctive balconies. You also visit the Bou Inania Madrasa, a 14th-century Islamic school known for its carved cedar, stucco and zellige tilework. Entrance is included.
In the afternoon you go deeper into the medina’s souks and artisan ateliers, passing the exterior of Al Quaraouiyine, founded in 859 and widely considered the oldest continually operating university in the world. You visit the Chouara Tannery, where leather is dyed in open stone vats, and a ceramic Manufactory, where Fez’s famous blue pottery is shaped, painted and fired by hand. Plan on several hours of walking, and wear comfortable shoes.

Depart early for the Sahara, a long and varied driving day. You climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing the alpine-style town of Ifrane and the Berber town of Midelt, and then the road follows palm-filled valleys down towards the edge of the desert.
You reach Merzouga by late afternoon and ride a camel across the golden dunes at sunset to your desert camp, where you spend the night. Bring a warm layer, as desert nights cool quickly especially in the winter time.

After breakfast you leave the desert behind and drive west through a changing landscape of rocky plains and palm groves to Skoura, a beautiful oasis in the Ouarzazate region. Your driver stops along the way for photos and short breaks.
You arrive in the afternoon at your charming lodge, set among palm groves and lush greenery. The rest of the day is at leisure in this tranquil setting, followed by dinner at the lodge.

After breakfast you drive to Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Morocco’s most famous fortified ksar. Built of earth and clay along an old caravan route, it has appeared in many films and television series. You have time to walk up through its alleys for views over the valley.
You then continue through the High Atlas Mountains by the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, at more than 2,200 metres, with wide views over the peaks. The journey ends at Ourika, a peaceful mountain retreat at the entrance of the Ourika Valley, with views over the Atlas peaks and Berber villages. This is a long travel day, broken up by stops.

A slower day in the mountains, with no long drive. After breakfast you take a short walk through a nearby Berber village to see local life and the mountain scenery. You then choose how to spend the middle of the day.
Option A: Lunch at a well-known mountain kasbah, with views over the High Atlas.
Option B: Walking tour and lunch in the Ourika Valley, exploring the valley at a gentle pace.
Lunch is included on either option. The afternoon is free to relax amid the peaceful surroundings.

After breakfast you head to Marrakech, around an hour away, for a guided sightseeing tour of the old medina. You discover its hidden treasures and historical highlights, including the Ben Youssef Madrasa, an Islamic school founded in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th, known for its carved cedar and zellige tilework. Entrance is included. You also see the exterior of the Koutoubia Mosque, whose 77-metre minaret is the landmark of the city.
The tour ends at Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, the bustling heart of the city, where you have time to explore the souks and the square. Lunch and dinner are at your leisure.

Today is yours to enjoy Marrakech at your own pace. You can wander the souks for shopping, or spend time among the city’s gardens and museums. Popular choices include the Majorelle Garden, the cobalt-blue garden created by the painter Jacques Majorelle, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum next door, and the Bahia Palace, a 19th-century palace with tilework and courtyards. We will be happy to suggest the best plan for your free day in Marrakech
Lunch and dinner are at your leisure, and the evening is a good time to return to Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, when the food stalls and entertainers are at their liveliest.

After breakfast you choose how to spend the day.
Option A: Drive to Casablanca in the morning. The journey takes around 3 hours. You visit the impressive Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, built on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, with a minaret that rises 210 metres. You then stroll along the Corniche, the seafront promenade.
Option B: Spend the morning at leisure in Marrakech, and head to Casablanca in the afternoon.
On either option, a farewell dinner in Casablanca closes your journey.
After breakfast, a private transfer takes you to Casablanca International Airport for your departure flight.
Itinerary can be adjusted to your dates, pace and interests.
