About this tour
This Morocco Jewish heritage tour is a round trip from Marrakech that opens with a night in the Agafay Desert before heading to the coastal town of Essaouira, once home to one of Morocco’s most significant Jewish communities — explored here through its synagogues, cemetery, and cultural centers.
A two-night stay in the High Atlas Mountains offers genuine Berber village life, before the journey closes in Marrakech with a dedicated day exploring the city’s own rich Jewish quarter and synagogue.
This is a genuinely distinctive itinerary for travelers interested in Morocco’s history of coexistence, not just its postcard sights.
As a Moroccan local operator, we hand-pick every riad, camp and guide on this route. Every itinerary can be tailored to your dates, pace and interests.

The journey
Upon arrival at Marrakech Airport, transfer directly to the tranquil Agafay Desert, a rocky landscape just outside the city. Check into your luxury desert camp and relax before a memorable sunset camel ride, with dinner served at the camp under the stars.
Head west to the charming coastal town of Essaouira. Enjoy a relaxed orientation tour of the UNESCO-listed medina, visiting the historic Skala de la Kasbah for sweeping Atlantic views, with the afternoon free to stroll through artisan shops, galleries, and the port.
A day dedicated to Essaouira’s deep-rooted Jewish heritage, once home to one of Morocco’s most significant Jewish communities. Visit the Mellah, the 18th-century Haim Pinto Synagogue, and the old Jewish cemetery, continuing to Bayt Dakira (House of Memory), a cultural center celebrating coexistence, before free time in the medina.
A relaxed morning to explore the beach, enjoy a seafood lunch by the port, or shop for local crafts, before departing for a peaceful two-night stay at an eco-lodge in the High Atlas Mountains.
A gentle guided walk through the surrounding valleys and traditional Berber villages, with mint tea and conversation at a local home, and lunch in another family home for a warm introduction to mountain hospitality.
Travel to Marrakech for an orientation tour through the city’s vibrant neighborhoods, including the medina’s souks, the Koutoubia Mosque area, and the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa square.
A day focused on Marrakech’s rich Jewish history — the Mellah, the traditional Jewish quarter, and the beautifully restored Lazama Synagogue, an important spiritual center for the community — with free time in the afternoon for shopping or a hammam experience.
Depending on your flight time, enjoy a relaxed morning before your driver transfers you to Marrakech Airport for your departure.
