Discover Casablanca: Morocco’s Economic Heart

Casablanca is Morocco’s largest city and economic powerhouse—a cosmopolitan metropolis where gleaming skyscrapers meet French colonial architecture and ancient traditions. While most travelers pass through en route to other destinations, Casablanca rewards those who linger with one of the world’s most spectacular mosques, vibrant neighborhoods, and a glimpse of contemporary Moroccan life.

The city’s crown jewel is the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, with the world’s tallest minaret soaring above the Atlantic Ocean. Beyond the mosque, explore Art Deco boulevards, the old medina, and experience the energy of a modern African city that balances tradition with ambition.

Top Things to Do in Casablanca

From architectural masterpieces to cosmopolitan dining, Casablanca offers a different side of Morocco.

Hassan II Mosque

One of the world’s largest and most beautiful mosques, Hassan II Mosque sits dramatically on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Its 210-meter minaret is the world’s tallest, and the interior—which accommodates 25,000 worshippers—features stunning craftsmanship: hand-carved stone and wood, intricate zellige tilework, and a retractable roof that opens to the sky.

Unique feature: One of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslims can enter (guided tours only)

Art Deco Architecture

Casablanca boasts one of the world’s largest collections of Art Deco buildings, a legacy of French colonial rule in the early 20th century. Stroll the boulevards around Place Mohammed V to admire ornate facades blending European modernism with Moroccan decorative elements. The Mahkama du Pacha and Cinema Rialto are standout examples of this unique Mauresque style.

Best area: Downtown around Boulevard Mohammed V and Place des Nations Unies

Corniche & Coastal Life

Casablanca’s Corniche is a long beachfront promenade lined with cafes, restaurants, clubs, and ocean pools. It’s where locals come to see and be seen, especially on weekends. Walk along the waterfront, enjoy fresh seafood with Atlantic views, or simply watch the sunset over the ocean. The nearby Ain Diab neighborhood has a distinctly cosmopolitan, Miami-like atmosphere.

Best for: Sunset walks, seafood dining, people-watching
