This Morocco tour combining the Agafay Desert and Essaouira with the High Atlas Mountains is unlike anything else available in the country.
You arrive in Marrakech and drive straight up into the High Atlas Mountains — away from the crowds, into crisp mountain air and terraced valley views. Two nights in a luxury eco-lodge kasbah, where the only agenda is walking to the nearest Berber village, eating food grown on the hillside, and watching the sky change colour over the peaks.
Then down to the Agafay — Morocco’s rocky lunar desert just an hour from the city — for a night in a luxury desert camp with camel rides at dusk, Berber music around the fire, and a sky full of stars with the Atlas Mountains still visible on the horizon. No Sahara crowds. Just the desert, the silence, and you.
From there, west to Essaouira — the blue and white city on the Atlantic where the wind always blows and the pace slows to almost nothing. Two nights of fishing port sunsets, fresh grilled fish, UNESCO medina lanes, and long afternoons on the beach.

Days 1 & 2
High Atlas Mountains
You arrive in Marrakech and within two hours the city is behind you. The road climbs through terraced hillsides, past walnut groves and Berber hamlets clinging to the valley walls, until you arrive at your eco-lodge kasbah. Two nights here move at mountain pace — guided walks to nearby villages, meals made from vegetables grown on the slope below, yoga on the terrace if you want it, absolute silence if you don’t.
Day 3
Agafay Desert
One hour from Marrakech, the Agafay stretches out like a lunar landscape — rocky, still, and completely unlike the Sahara crowds. Your luxury camp sits with the Atlas Mountains on the horizon. Camel ride at dusk. Dinner under the stars. Berber musicians around a fire. The kind of night that feels cinematic while it is happening and impossible to describe afterwards.
Days 4 & 5
Essaouira, on the Atlantic
Essaouira runs on a different clock to the rest of Morocco. The wind comes off the Atlantic, the streets are blue and white, the medina is UNESCO-listed and actually quiet enough to wander without a map. Two nights here means two mornings of fresh fish at the port, one long beach afternoon, and one evening watching the sun drop into the ocean from the old city ramparts.
Days 6 & 7
Marrakech, The Red City
You arrive in Marrakech having already seen three faces of Morocco — which means you arrive with context. Two full days with an expert local guide take you through the palaces, the souks, roof tops, the Ben Youssef Madrassa with its carved cedar ceiling, and the Jemaa el-Fnaa at dusk when the square erupts into one of the most extraordinary public spectacles on earth.

What will I experience on this trip?
Four completely different sides of Morocco in eight days — the High Atlas Mountains, the Agafay Desert, the Atlantic coast at Essaouira, and the imperial city of Marrakech. The pace is deliberately unhurried: two nights in each destination gives you time to actually feel each place rather than just photograph it and move on.
What is the Agafay Desert — is it different from the Sahara?
Yes, completely different — and that is exactly why we chose it. The Agafay is a rocky desert plateau about 30km from Marrakech, dramatically different from the orange sand dunes of the Sahara. It is quieter, more accessible, and has the unique advantage of the High Atlas Mountains visible on the horizon. For travellers who want the desert experience without the long drive south, the Agafay is often the more memorable choice.

Is this trip suitable for families with children?
Yes, very much so. This is also one of the best Morocco tours for couples — the desert camp, the Essaouira evenings, and the mountain sunsets are especially memorable for two people travelling together. For families, the relaxed pace, the variety of landscapes, the camel ride, and the beach time in Essaouira make this particularly well-suited for children too.

What level of fitness is required?
This is one of our most relaxed itineraries. There is no strenuous hiking — the optional mountain walk is gentle, the medina tours involve moderate walking on uneven surfaces, and everything else is at your own pace.
